When we talk of HipHop Music, there are the pioneers in the game. And am speaking of non other than RZA,the former member of Wu-Tang Clan.
RZA (Robert Fitzgerald Diggs) is a Grammy winning music producer who has produced almost all records by Wu-Tang Clan.
He’s suing Japanese pianist Meiko Kaji over claims that he sampled her music.
The Emcee/Record Producer is suing Meiko Kaji as well as Teichiku Entertainment over claims that he illegally sampled Kaji’s “Gincyo Watadori” for Kanye West’s 2010 song “Dark Fantasy” in which he claims he didn’t sample the track and as a result of that lawsuit, Kanye West’s Def Jam label is withholding RZA the compensation for his work.
The lawsuit began when Def Jam withheld $50,000 in royalties for the song on the basis that “it is entitled to indemnification from plaintiff against defendant’s copyright infringement claim.”
RZA’s Legal representation, Howard King, explained that the plaintiff’s claim is false, and that it would have been impossible to use the sample without using other functions of Kaji’s original song.
